11200 Rockville Pike

Rockville, Maryland

This unique design showcases the dramatic five-story atrium space of 11200 Rockville Pike and affords floor-to-ceiling views of the outdoor terrace.  The complete lobby renovation comprises 9,088 sf of foyer and terrace space along with an additional 1,122 sf for the second-floor amenity.

An integral element of the new design is the installation of wood cladding to the central elevator tower, a significant feature spanning five stories. Strategic design components bring human scale to the lofty atrium and provide intimate hospitality spaces to compliment the building décor and align with the current market standard. Zoned flooring delineates the seating area with a wood plank pattern contrasting the monolithic polished stone. Wood cladding to the central elevator tower adds warmth and accentuates a central hub.

The imposing elevator tower is clad with tongue and groove white oak planks to accentuate the vertical prism that penetrates the atrium. The introduction of the suspended trellis grill anchors the lounge space and provides a level of intimacy as well as a visual feature. Soft bright furnishings add a punch of complementary colors and texture. Pendant lights ‘drip’ down from the skylight into the center of the lobby adding another visual element of dimension to the space.

The interplay of vertical and horizontal elements continues on the 2nd fl. The chevron pattern of the wood plank flooring provides visual interest and contrasts with the sleek stone surface of the waterfall counter in the amenity pantry. Wave motion graphics enliven conversation zones and compliment the linear elements of the wall cladding and backsplash tile.

The juxtaposition of wood and stone, and vertical and horizontal features create a striking space and enhance the lobby experience to provide not only a transient space but a true destination.
